The mood at the family party had turned completely sour and cold.
Guests whispered to each other near the wooden fence border.
Mark felt a heavy tightness forming deep inside his chest.
He looked at his young daughter who was still sobbing quietly.
Then he looked at Sarah, who was wiping away fake tears.
Sarah: Mark, your mother is making me feel so awful right now.
Mark: She spent three days working on that cake, Sarah.
Sarah: Accidents happen, why are you taking her side against me?
Mark looked down at the expensive designer bag on Sarah's arm.
He remembered buying that leather bag for her last Christmas.
Sarah had insists on carrying it everywhere she went today.
She had even kept it close while helping set up the party.
Mark: Why are you holding your purse so tight, Sarah?
Sarah: What kind of silly question is that, Mark?
Mark: You look nervous, like you are hiding something from me.
Sarah: I am just upset because everyone is glaring at me!
Evelyn watched her son argue with his selfish young wife.
She knew the truth about what Sarah was trying to achieve today.
Earlier that morning, Evelyn had visited her family lawyer's office.
She had signed a new trust fund document for little Lily's future.
The legal paper gave Lily full rights to the family estate mansion.
It also protected Mark's life insurance money from any future divorce.
Sarah had found out about the trust fund paper three days ago.
She wanted Mark's entire inheritance money for herself and her family.
Evelyn had put the legal copy inside her own bedroom drawer earlier.
But she had seen Sarah slipping out of that room before the party.
Sarah thought dropping the cake would distract everyone completely.
She planned to hide the stolen legal papers inside her designer bag.
Evelyn walked back toward the stone patio with a firm resolve.
She was not going to let this woman destroy her family's trust.
Evelyn: Sarah, give me your handbag for a moment, please.
Sarah: Excuse me? Why would I give you my personal bag?
Evelyn: Because I think you have something in there that belongs to me.
Sarah: You are losing your mind in your old age, Evelyn!
Mark: Sarah, just show her what is inside the bag right now.
Sarah: No, Mark! This is a complete violation of my privacy!
Sarah backed away toward the open flames of the fire pit table.
The gas fire pit crackled loudly in the cool afternoon breeze.
Evelyn smiled a sharp, cold smile as she stepped closer to Sarah.
Evelyn: If you will not show us, I will take care of it myself.
